There are 1,810 billionaires on Forbes World’s Billionaires list

Forbes annual list of the world’s wealthiest people is slightly less rich when compared to the previous year. Of the $6.48 trillion in total, the world’s richest 500 individuals are worth staggering $4.16 trillion.

The US still has the largest number of billionaires – 183, followed by 149 from Europe and 119 from Asia-Pacific.

Below is the list of the world’s top 10 billionaires in 2016. This list included 10 of the richest people in the world, as of January 20, 2017, and it is based on Forbes real-time net worth.

10. Michael Bloomberg

Net worth: $42.4 billion

Former New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg is the founder, CEO and owner of Bloomberg L.P, financial software, date and media company. Bloomberg is a major player in the global financial services industry, but also has considerable investments in the media sector. Bloomberg was the 8th richest person in the US in 2016.

Net worth: $43.6 billion

David, and his brother, Charles Koch, share control over Koch Industries, which is the second largest private company in the US. He was ranked 7th richest person in the US in 2016.

Fred Koch, David and Charles’ father, started the family business back in 1940. He improved the method of refining heavy oil into gasoline.

Net worth: $43.6 billion

Charles Koch serves as CEO of Koch Industries, since his father’s death in 1967. He transformed the company into a $100 billion conglomerate. His businesses include chemicals manufacturing, pipelines and commodities trading. He and his brother are also ranked #31 on Forbes list of the world’s most powerful people.

7. Carlos Slim Helu

Net worth: $48.1 billion

Slim, a Mexican telecommunications magnate, has been ranked as the world richest person in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. His conglomerate includes education, health care, industrial manufacturing, transportation, real estate, media, energy, hospitality, entertainment, high-technology, retail, sports, and financial services.

Slim’s wealth has suffered since Donald Trump’s election as US President; his net worth declined by $5 billion in just four days after the US election.

Net worth: $49.2 billion

Ellison is the founder and CEO of Oracle, a multinational computer technology corporation with headquarters in California. Ellison made it to the top three of the Forbes 400 list in 2015 and remains one of the richest people in the US.

Zuckerberg has been one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the US and the world. He was ranked #1 on Forbes list of America’s Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40 in 2016. He is also ranked 10th on the list of world’s most powerful people. The Facebook stock price increased by 15% during the last months of 2016. The higher share price contributed to the rise of Zuckerberg’s fortune.

4. Jeff Bezos

Gates has been ranked no. 1 on Forbes wealthiest list in 2016 and remains the richest person in the world. Although he stepped down as the Chairman of Microsoft in 2014, Gates has remained a technology adviser and board member of the company. As of September 2016, he owns 2.5% of Microsoft, which accounts for 13% of his fortune.
