Well, this is interesting…
Apparently Girls creator and actress Lena Dunham warned the Clinton campaign about Harvey Weinstein’s reputation as a sex offender… although she doesn’t actually think her message was ever received.
The news comes following an in-depth investigation by The New York Times, which suggests that Harvey Weinstein kept Bill and Hillary Clinton on side by donating hefty sums of money to their campaigns, and even hosting fundraisers for them.
In March last year, Lena Dunham allegedly told Kristina Schake – the campaign’s deputy communications director – about “disturbing” incidents she had heard about from other actresses.
“I just want you to let you know that Harvey’s a rapist and this is going to come out at some point”
“I just want you to let you know that Harvey’s a rapist and this is going to come out at some point,” Lena Dunham reportedly told Schake at the time.
“I think it’s a really bad idea for him to host fund-raisers and be involved because it’s an open secret in Hollywood that he has a problem with sexual assault,” she added.
Lena Dunham said that she also told Adrienne Elrod, a spokeswoman for Hillary Clinton, but she doesn’t think her message was received by her, or Kristina Schake.
Hillary Clinton’s communications director, Nick Merrill, said that neither he nor anyone else from the campaign knew about the claims against Weinstein…
“We were shocked when we learned what he’d done,” he said in a statement.
“It’s despicable behaviour, and the women that have come forward have shown enormous courage.
“As to claims about a warning, that’s something staff wouldn’t forget, only Dunham can answer why she would tell them instead of those who could stop him.”
Hmm… interesting indeed.
