Blake Lively admits she was too scared to stand up for herself: “I was afraid of coming across as a diva”

Blake Lively is older and wiser than she was in her Gossip Girl days, which is why she finally has the confidence to speak out about being mistreated in the workplace.

The mother of two daughters has admitted to People that she was too scared to speak up for herself in the past for fear of being branded a diva.

“I didn’t feel like I could fight for myself in the same way, because I was afraid of coming across as a diva or difficult or demanding,” she said in the interview.

“I think that sometimes you’re not encouraged to stand up for yourself.

“It doesn’t even mean in really dramatic ways. That just means that if you’re working too many hours, or you aren’t being paid what someone else at your work level is being paid, or if you’re being treated differently than someone else on the crew, or whoever.”

She continued to tell People that she didn’t want to have a reputation of being demanding, as that can really affect your chance of finding work in Hollywood…

“As a woman, you’re afraid of a label you may acquire by demanding fair treatment for yourself that you know that you’ve earned.”

We’re glad that Blake has finally found the courage to speak up and defend herself. Her daughters should be proud!
