Chrissy Teigen on her struggles with alcohol: “I have to fix myself”

One day you’re goofing around pretending to be a ballerina, and the next day you’re opening up about something a lot more serious.

Chrissy Teigen is no stranger to pouring her heart out for her fans – remember how vocal she was about her postpartum depression?

Well now, the model and Lip Sync Battle co-presenter has opened up about her struggles with alcohol in the past, including how she was the type of person who would never “just have one drink”…

“I was, point blank, just drinking too much,” she admitted.

“I got used to being in hair and make-up and having a glass of wine. Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show.

“And then I felt bad for making kind of an ass of myself to people that I really respected. And that feeling, there’s just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It’s not a good look for me, for John, for anybody.”

Even during her struggles with postpartum depression and anxiety, the model turned to alcohol which, in her owns words, “is like the least thing that helps”…

“I knew in my heart it wasn’t right,” she added.

“It makes you very short with people. People think it’s cutesy and fun to go on these boozy brunches, but there’s more to it. I’ve never once been like, ‘I’m sure glad I had that boozy brunch!'”

It was only after taking a break from her career and press commitments and finding herself at a wellness retreat in Bali, that she realised she had to make a positive change…

“I used to think it was kind of nutty to have to go totally sober, but now I get it,” she concluded.

“I don’t want to be that person. … I have to fix myself.”

And with the news that she and husband John Legend are about to try for another baby, Chrissy’s new attitude couldn’t have come at a better time!
