Here’s why Rachel Weisz DOESN’T want a female James Bond

Doctor Who may be making history with its first female doctor, but Rachel Weisz doesn’t want James Bond to go down the same route.

But perhaps she is a little biased since she is technically Mrs James Bond – aka the wife of current Bond, Daniel Craig…

“Ian Fleming devoted an awful lot of time to writing this particular character who is particularly male and relates in a particular way to women,” the actress told The Telegraph.

“Why not create your own story rather than jumping on to the shoulders and being compared to all those other male predecessors?

“Women are really fascinating and interesting and should get their own stories.”

“Women are really fascinating and interesting and should get their own stories.”

And it looks like she has a pretty good idea on the kind of stories women need, as she has been working on some pretty powerful stuff herself. It’s all about the strong female leads!

She was sensational in My Cousin Rachel, and is now working on Disobedience, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by ‘Women’s Prize for Fiction’ winner Naomi Alderman.

The story is about a Jewish woman who returns to London following the death of her father, and rekindles her love affair with her former best friend. The role will be played by Rachel McAdams, so we’re pretty excited to see these two ladies on the big screen together.

We definitely get what Rachel Weisz was talking about!

Do you agree with her?
