Big Little Lies had us well and truly gripped from the very first episode right through to the last scene of the highly climactic finale.
But we, along with most other hooked viewers, didn’t really spare much thought for how the actors were dealing with some of the tougher scenes. Until now…
Nicole Kidman has opened up about what filming those domestic abuse scenes really did to her emotionally and physically, and it’s actually quite heart-breaking…
“I remember lying on the floor in the last episode, being in my underwear and having just been really thrown around,” she said, in reference to the abusive scene in the finale.
“I just lay on the floor. I couldn’t get up. I didn’t want to get up. And I remember Jean-Marc [Vallée, the show’s director] coming over and putting a towel over me in between the takes.
“I just felt completely humiliated and devastated. And angry inside. I went home and I threw a rock through a glass door.
“I couldn’t get into my hotel room so I threw a rock through the window…I don’t do stuff like that.'”
We knew that actors, and other creative types, tend to suffer for their art, but this takes things to a whole new level.
We love you, Nicole Kidman!
Regardless of whether a second season is on cards or not, we hope Nicole Kidman and the rest of the Big Little Lies cast can be proud of what they have achieved.
