This year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show isn’t getting off to the best start.
Katy Perry has been refused entry to China, and is therefore unable to perform in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai on Monday.
“She was initially granted a visa to perform at the VS show in Shanghai, then Chinese officials changed their minds and yanked her visa,” a source explained to Page Six.
“For every artist who wants to perform in China, officials comb through their social-media and press reports to see if they have done anything deemed to be offensive to the country.
“Maroon 5 was banned a few years ago because one band member wished the Dalai Lama happy birthday on Twitter.”
And Katy Perry is the only person to miss out on the show…
Gigi Hadid mysteriously Tweeted that she won’t be walking in the show, despite being one of the most popular and in-demand models and already securing her spot on the catwalk earlier in the year.
She didn’t give a reason for her absence, although it’s believed that the visa – or lack thereof – has something to do with it.
“I’m so bummed I won’t be able to make it to China this year,” Gigi wrote on her Instagram.
“Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!! Can’t wait to tune in with everyone to see the beautiful show I know it will be, and already can’t wait for next year!”
It’s thought that her Asian impression – which didn’t go down very well and was deemed racist by many people – might have something to do with it, although no one can be totally sure.
It looks like younger sister Bella Hadid will still be walking in the show though, as her “Coming for you @victoriassecret!!” comment on her Instagram story has fans convinced she is already en route to Shanghai.
Many bloggers and members of the press will also miss out on the show due to China’s very strict visa process.
