Khloe Kardashian can’t seem to catch a break these days, can she?
Not only was she being sued for sharing a picture of herself on her own social media account (true story!) but her advert for Protein World received a lot of complaints for being “socially irresponsible”.
So why did the poster, which was plastered all over the underground, receive so much backlash?
Judging from all the complaints on Twitter, there were several offending factors. One of them was the fact that it endorsed an unhealthy approach to dieting, and another was the fact that Khloe herself was very heavily Photoshopped in the image, thus giving women unrealistic expectations.
Luckily for Khloe though, the ASA seems to be on her side on this occasion, and has actually cleared the ad, claiming that the poster “promoted Khloe Kardashian’s body image as desirable and aspirational”.
“We acknowledged that the use of the terms ‘Can you keep up with … ‘ and ‘challenge’ could be interpreted as having a competitive quality, “ it added.
“But we did not consider that the terms or the ads overall encouraged excessive weight loss or other extreme or potentially harmful dieting behaviour. We therefore concluded the ads were not socially irresponsible.”
Well there you go.
