We can’t seem to go a single day without talking about Kim Kardashian’s upcoming make-up collection. But today’s topic is quite the controversial one…
As well as celebrating daughter North’s fourth birthday yesterday Kim and we assume the rest of the Kardashian klan, have had to deal with a little bit of backlash caused by a promo pic for Kim’s cream contour kit.
The picture in question features a very bronzed Kim Kardashian (noticeable shades darker than her usual pictures, we must say) which instantly caused a social media storm as Twitter users accused her of using “blackface”. And clearly, a lot of people were angry and offended by it…
“Black women get told to lighten meanwhile Kim spends her entire career in perpetual Black face and is lauded for her beauty” – Austin Wines @seniWnitsuA
“I love Kim but that’s def black face in the form of makeup she is no where near that dark” – Jasmin Leigh @RealJasminLeigh
“Who put Kim K in blackface for her ad?
Why is she 100 years late with a contour kit?” – Le Croix Devereaux @miss_hellion
“How did a team of PR people all look at the photo of Kim in blackface and then tell her to post it AND make it her avi” – frown @t0tallybitch
It goes without saying that not everyone shared this view though – many users also rushed to Kim’s defence, and noted how Kim was just “extra tanned” and the backlash was blown way out of proportion.
“So anyone who tans is doing blackface now?? Good grief! Time for an asteroid to hit the earth! No intelligent life left down here!”- Kendall Pugs @kendallpugs
“So? Is it illegal to tan now? Jeeeezzz” – Francis @189Etten
We think we’ll leave it there.
Where do you guys stand? Offensive blackface or just a little bit of harmless tanning and editing to promote a contouring product?
