The 47-year-old actor has recently sacrificed his athletic figure in order to perfectly portray the role of gold prospector Kenny Wells in an upcoming movie called Gold. Not only did he gain all of this weight, but McConaughey also shaved his head and wore a toupee while working on the movie. Gold is set to arrive in theaters on January 27.

This is not the first time Matthew has decided to alter his weight for a role. Back in 2013, he famously lost 38 pounds for his role in the movie Dallas Buyers Club. However, for his new role, he had to gain weight without adding any muscle mass.

“I haven’t ever done that. I said, ‘McConaughey, you have six months to say yes to whatever you want to eat and whatever you want to drink. Whenever.’ That was fun. The only thing that gets tiring is the thought of quitting. It was fortunate that I was like, ‘Oh, this is also my job, so let’s go—all green lights,’” said Matthew in an interview with E! News when speaking on his experience with weight gain.

“I was eating cheeseburgers all the time. I was making cheeseburgers. I was trying out all these fast food restaurants that I’ve never had, or I’ve only had one time. Not that much sweets. Cheeseburgers and beer will do the trick,” shared the legendary actor.

Not only did McConaughey start eating whatever he wanted in order to gain 47 pounds, but he also stopped exercising altogether.
