Hervé Pierre – former creative director at Carolina Herrera, don’tcha know – has finally opened up about his working relationship with Melania Trump.
Not only did he design the stunning white gown she famously wore to the inauguration, but he has acted as her personal stylist for many occasions since she accepted her new role as the First Lady.
And the best thing about them working together, as he put it, is that they are both learning as they go…
“I’m not always right. I make mistakes, and same for her,” he said in an interview with The New York Times.
“There’s no ‘How to Be the Perfect First Lady’ book. You learn on the spot.”
“When you work with a woman, it’s not about the clothes. It’s about the way a person is living: the way she eats, the way she organises, her flowers.
“I ask a question every time I put an idea on paper: Where is this woman going?”
And of course, he addressed the issue that has plagued Melania since even before her husband became President… and that’s the fact that Tom Ford, along with a long list of other designers, has refused to dress her.
“The beauty of this country is that it’s a democracy, so some people want to dress certain people and some people don’t want to,” he added.
“I choose to. If you forget about the political, or whatever, that’s behind it, the needs are so interesting to answer.
“Even if I’m not creating the clothes, it is very creative to consider how it’s going to be perceived. And when you decide, you divide.”
Although Melania Trump is bound to always face criticism in everything she does, we can’t deny that she has had some wonderful fashion moments since becoming First Lady.
What say you?
