Hernandez was an American football tight end that used to play for the New England Patriots. He made a lot of headlines back in 2013, when he was arrested for the murder of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd. Just 90 minutes after the arrest, Aaron was released by the Patriots.
Just a year after being arrested for the murder of Lloyd, Hernandez was indicted for a double homicide that occurred in 2012. In 2015, Aaron was found guilty of first-degree murder and five weapon charges. He automatically got sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Five days ago, the NFL star was found not guilty for the double homicide. Nevertheless, he continued serving his life sentence for the murder of Odin. Now, it was revealed that Hernandez has committed suicide in his prison cell. He was 27 years old.
“On April 19, 2017, Aaron Hernandez was discovered hanged in his cell by corrections officers at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts at approximately 3:05 a.m., lifesaving techniques were attempted on Mr. Hernandez and he was transported to UMASS Leominster where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m. by a physician at the hospital,” noted the Massachusetts Department of Corrections in a statement.
It was also mentioned in the statement that “Mr. Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population housing unit. Mr. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window. Mr. Hernandez also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items. The Massachusetts State Police are on scene and the investigation continues. Mr. Hernandez’s next of kin have been notified.”
Aaron has left behind a fiancé, a 4-year-old daughter, a mother, and older brother.
