Rihanna has finally responded to an insensitive Snapchat advert which caused widespread controversy after it poked fun of domestic violence by referencing the infamous 2009 feud with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown that left her with a black eye.
The distasteful ad read “would you rather slap Rihanna or punch Chris Brown?”, which predictably caused enormous backlash.
Now, Rihanna has finally broken her silence by throwing some highly deserved shade at Snapchat. It’s brutal, and we kind of love it!
“Now SNAPCHAT I know you already know you ain’t my fav app out there! But I’m just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess,” Rihanna wrote.
“I’d love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain’t that dumb! You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to domestic violence victims and made a joke of it!!!”

“This isn’t about my personal feelings, cause I don’t have much of them…but all the women, children and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven’t made it out yet….you let us down!
“Shame on you. Throw the whole app-ology away.”
Speaking of apologies, Snapchat issued an apology and promptly took the ad down following the backlash…
“The ad was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines,” a spokesperson for the app said in a statement.
“We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware. We are sorry that this happened.”
Chris Brown also weighed in – via his lawyer Mark Geragos…
“They should change their name from Snapchat to Tone Deaf,” he told US Weekly.
We never thought we would say this, but we agree with Chris Brown! Let’s hope this is a lesson to everyone in the advertising sector…
