The 89th Annual Academy Awards – The Best Dressed!

The wrong Best Picture announcement is undoubtedly going to be the biggest talking point of this year’s 89th Annual Academy Awards.

We’re still in disbelief, but let’s try and move past it for the sake of fashion and the biggest red carpet moments we’ve been waiting an entire year for.

We guessed that Best Actress nominee (and winner!) Emma Stone would pull out all the sartorial stops for the biggest night on the awards season calendar, and luckily we weren’t disappointed. She floated down the red carpet in a dazzling Givenchy Haute Couture gown that could have been snapped right off the La La Land costume wardrobe. Definitely a contender for best dressed!

Another leading lady who completely blew us away was Hidden Figures actress Taraji P. Henson. She summed up Oscars fashion perfectly, and looked the epitome of Hollywood glamour in her custom Alberta Ferretti masterpiece. There’s no other word for it. And can we just talk about the diamond necklace that practically blinded us?

Taraji wasn’t the only star to don the failsafe black colour on the red carpet. Kirsten Dunst looked chic and elegant in her Dior gown, while last year’s Best Actress winner Alicia Vikander worked the gothic trend like a pro in a bold Louis Vuitton creation.

The red carpet was also dominated by pale, pastel hues, metallics, but we relied on Best Supporting Actress winner Viola Davis and Ruth Negga for some much-needed pops of colour.

This year’s red carpet fashion will forever be overshadowed by the Best Picture blunder that will no doubt go down in history, but that’s not to say we shouldn’t give the stars and their stylists the recognition they deserve.
