The real reason Emma Watson didn’t get the lead in La La Land

Some of you might think that, given the phenomenal awards-season success of La La Land, Emma Watson would be quietly kicking herself for turning down the part that led to Emma Stone winning an Oscar.

Rumours were rife last week that Emma Watson actually ruined her chances of securing the leading role because she was a “diva” and was “impossible to work with”.

Some pretty serious accusations; but Emma Watson, keen, as ever, on setting the record straight, has revealed all during an interview with SiriusXM…

“It’s one of these frustrating things where names get attached to projects very early on as a way to kind of build anticipation or excitement for something that’s coming before anything is really actually agreed or set in stone,” she said, after explaining that she had already agreed to the Beauty and the Beast role.

“It wasn’t a movie I could just sort of step into. I knew I had horse training, I knew I had dancing, I knew I had three months of singing ahead of me and I knew I had to be in London to really do that.

“This wasn’t a movie I could just kind of parachute into. I knew I had to do the work, and I had to be where I had to be. So, you know, scheduling conflict-wise, it just didn’t work out.”

So there you have it. Emma Watson isn’t a diva – she just said no to La La Land because she had already committed herself to playing Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

We’re kind of glad she did though – we can’t imagine anyone other than Emma Stone playing the part of Mia in La La Land, can you?
