‘Woman of the Year’ Selena Gomez SLAMMED for working with Woody Allen

Selena Gomez has received a lot of criticism for choosing to work with controversial director Woody Allen.

The criticism comes following the accusation that the director molested his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, when she was seven years old.

Although he has never been found guilty of child sex abuse, Woody Allen will always have the accusation hanging over him, as will the people who decide to work with him.

What makes Selena Gomez accepting the role in his new (currently untitled) film even more awkward, is the fact that filming began just as the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault accusations first came out.

Selena was undoubtedly keen to stay quiet about her decision to work with Woody Allen because of everything coming out in the media, but she was forced to address it in her ‘Woman of the Year’ interview for Billboard.

“To be honest, I’m not sure how to answer – not because I’m trying to back away from it,” she told Billboard when asked if she took Woody Allen’s past into consideration when accepting the role.

“The Harvey Weinstein allegations actually happened right after I had started on the movie. They popped up in the midst of it. And that’s something, yes, I had to face and discuss.

“I stepped back and thought, ‘Wow, the universe works in interesting ways.’”

Her way of addressing the situation didn’t go down well with social media. Billboard has even come under fire for its decision to make Selena Gomez its ‘Woman of the Year’ in the first place…

@BetzywithZ

“Woman of the year @selenagomez is working with sexual predator Woody Allen. When asked about what she thought about it she was just like the universe works in interesting ways… What a joke.”

@Iittledove

“selena gomez was confronted with woody allen’s rape allegations, thought “wow” but decided to inevitably ignore it to further her career…..so @billboard what’s your definition of woman of the year???”

@blakebellamys

“i’m so done with selena gomez after her last interview

how can you advocate for r*ape/sexual assault when at the same time you are working with Woody Allen because apparently “life works in interesting ways”??

just say you only care about the €€€€€ and go”

@aneziiaa

“how can Selena Gomez be named Women of the Year when she’s working with Woody Allen? do we not have standards anymore? & people are okay with Trump, a person who committed sexual assault multiple times, being our President? but people get triggered if I use the wrong pronoun. Lol”

What do you guys think? Should Selena Gomez have refused to work with Woody Allen? Was Billboard wrong to name her ‘Woman of the Year’ because of her decision to accept the controversial role?
