The lovely summer is here to stay for at least a couple of months, so today I’m going to be talking about some nice tips and tricks for taking full advantage of what my favorite season (and yours, I’m sure) has to offer when it comes to your health. On top of that, I’m also going to brief you about how to protect yourself from sun’s adverse effects while enjoying your holiday at the beach.
First of all, you must consider the sun as being a friendly helper and not try to keep away from it. Why ? Well, as you may already know but I’m going to tell you anyway, when the sunlight reaches your skin, it helps with the production of vitamin D3, which is extremely important as, thanks to it, your body metabolizes the calcium from your food, enhances your immune system and reduces the risk of getting diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cancer, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and other diseases (even depression). Half an hour of daily sun exposure and your D3 levels will be rocking!
Okay, now comes the sunscreen problem. What should you use ? Well, I would recommend you to forget about the regular skin care products commercially available, as the vast majority of them contain a lot of (toxic) chemical ingredients that aren’t so great for your skin, and I’m being very polite here. So, what should you use instead ? Think along the lines of Shea butter, coconut oil, macadamia nut oil or jojoba, all of these are some super skin conditioners that protect it and also help with avoiding/healing sunburns.
You already know that it’s very important to keep yourself hydrated by drinking loads of water, but guess what shouldn’t be missing from your diet ? Your best friends during the summer are cucumbers, which are rich in vitamin C, magnesium and potassium, and also avocados, blueberries, tomatoes, spinach, apricots, watermelons, carrots, oranges and mangoes, which are all loaded with vitamins and antioxidants for fighting with those pesky free radicals from our bodies, free radicals that can cause a lot of health problems, such as arthritis, some types of cancer, heart issues and so forth and so on.
In conclusion, if you drink at least half a gallon of water a day and you add these veggies and fruits to your daily meals, without forgetting to take proper care of your skin, your body will feel way better than before, because there’s no greater gift than that lovely thing called health.
