In a major show of military prowess amid rising tensions between the United States and North Korea , the US Air Force launched a state of the art Minuteman III missile. The Minuteman III is a powerful ICBM (inter-continental ballistic missile) which is capable of hitting North Korean mainland without any significant problems and it was launched to ensure its readiness, effectiveness and accuracy, together with US military’s national nuclear capabilities, to quote from the official statement.
The ICBM was launched from an Air Base in California and I can bet the crazy fat kid Kim Jong-un was green with envy at the news. However, the launching of a Minuteman III ICBM nuke doesn’t do much with regard to calming the situation, not to mention the US Navy strike group led by a nuclear-powered Nimitz class aircraft carrier (USS Carl Vinson) which is approaching inexorably the Korean Peninsula.
Regardless, US Air Force Global Strike Command spokesman claims that the Minuteman III ICBM test was planned way in advance and has nothing to do with a regime change in North Korea, as in it’s not connected in any way shape of form with the hairy situation regarding Kim Jong-un’s bellicose stance against the west, nothing to see here, move along.
And basically, these types of nuke tests happen regularly, so there’s no biggie, no worries and all that jazz. Meanwhile, Kim Jong-un is reportedly conducting massive artillery drills while a US nuclear-powered submarine just docked in South Korea.
The question is, who will blink first? The thing is, all this saber rattling and bellicose rhetoric doesn’t help anyone and now Hawaii feels threatened by North Korea, with the Pentagon considering deploying anti ICBM systems and a defensive radar system to Hawaii in order to protect the island against the so called growing threat from North Korea.
One may wonder if this is just a well played piece of Kabuki theater which distracts our attention while the military industrial complex gets rich in the process and Kim stays relevant on the international scene as the perfect bogeyman.
