During his first interview after the claimed chemical attack on April 4th, Syria’s President Bashar al Assad told AFP that the Syrian army completely gave up on its chemical arsenal a long time ago and, let me quote from AFP:
“Definitely, 100 percent for us, it’s fabrication . . . Our impression is that the West, mainly the United States, is hand-in-glove with the terrorists. They fabricated the whole story in order to have a pretext for the attack.”
This only adds to the confusion. Let’s recap: the Russians claim that the civilian deaths on April 4th occurred after a conventional airstrike, which hit a terrorist chemical weapons cache by mistake, an armed depot of sorts that contained toxic substances.
Now, Bashar al Assad denies any use of chemical weapons and accuses the West of manufacturing a false flag operation with the help of the so called rebels (which are terrorists by any definition).
The thing is, there was no investigation into the claimed chemical attack and there’s zero proof for both scenarios, whether we’re talking about the one in which Assad attacked a terrorist-held position with chemical weapons knowing that this will set the whole world against him, or the one proposed by the Russians, about the accidental bombing of a terrorist chemical weapons cache.
However, you can’t prove a negative, hence the West who accused Assad of wrongdoing must present the evidence, not vice-versa.
What’s important to know is that Assad is not the bad guy everyone wants you to believe. He is a secularist, he’s opened Syria up to the rest of the world, allowing the internet, news, fashion, entertainment from all over the world. Both him and his wife are highly educated (in the West) and she doesn’t wear the hijab.
Also, Assad protects minorities in Syria, including Christians (who love him by the way) and he’s currently winning the civil war, i.e. it would make no sense for him to use banned chemical weapons in such a delicate moment.
Assad isn’t that stupid and he had nothing to gain by perpetrating such an act when he knew he’s among the most hated political leaders by the western media.
