According to Trump Transition Team sources speaking to NBC News, Rex Tillerson is going to be nominated as Secretary of State in Donald Trump’s administration. Rex Tillerson became Texas based Exon Mobile’s CEO back in 2004 and he’s known for his close business relationships with Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
Tillerson is 64 years old and he has dedicated his entire career to the company that is now known as Exxon Mobil.
Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson will work together with John Bolton in the new Trump administration. Bolton is a former UN Ambassador and he’ll work under Tilellerson in a deputy position for the daily management of the department.
The sources speaking with NBC News cautioned the network to take the breaking news with a grain of salt, as nothing is one hundred percent sure until President Elect Donald Trump makes the official announcement, most probably next week.
Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson met today with Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York, as it was confirmed by President Elect’s spokesperson. Donald Trump selected Tillerson as his future Secretary of State after his transition team spent a couple of weeks looking for the ideal candidate to fill the position as top US diplomat. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former REP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney were considered for the job, but the former announced on Friday that he withdrew his bid to join Trump’s administration.
If he becomes Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson would be 4th in rank to the presidency. Truth be told, Tillerson is a surprising move from The Donald, as usual we might say, especially from the point of view of the establishment’s political forces who would have preferred Mitt Romney (Mittens) for the job.
Mitt Romney was pretty far from supportive during Donald Trump’s run for POTUS and he signaled his interest for the position of Secretary of State recently via public appearances in which he expressed mea culpa with regard to his opposition to the Donald Trump’s victory. Rex Tillerson also means that Trump chooses a fresh start with his diplomatic team rather than selecting an established GOP rhino.
