Can Oprah Beat Trump in 2020?

NBC seems to be so depressed by Trump’s presidency nowadays, that their staff are taking their darkest (pun intended) wishes as realities, or at least that’s what they seem to do on social media. If you don’t understand what I am talking about, a tweet on Monday morning coming from NBC’s official Twitter account called Oprah to be the future president of the United States in 2020.

This tweet was sent to NBC’s 1.7 million followers as a response of sorts to a Seth Meyers joke at the Golden Globes last night:

“In 2011, I told some jokes about our current president at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Jokes about how he was unqualified to be president. Some have said that night convinced him to run. So if that’s true, I just want to say: Oprah, you will never be president! You do not have what it takes!”

Following the huge backlash from their followers, NBC backtracked, deleted the tweet and claimed that the respective message was sent by, let me quote, a third party agency (maybe the NSA?) and had been deleted since. Some of the reactions on social media were pretty funny, to say the least:

In case you don’t think Oprah should be president just because she’s a woman, regardless of her political views, well, here’s what we know about her “leanings”: she’ a far left Democrat, and would return to a more extreme version of Obama’s policies Shocking, I know. But, here are the facts: she called for stricter gun control, she’s an advocate for offering a path to citizenship to illegal aliens, she’s a big donor for the DNC/Democrats generally speaking and she supports gay marriage.

Oprah’s campaign for 2020 will be as short-lived as any one of her 167 diet fads, as Maxine will probably be be her running mate! Remember: If hypocritical Hollywood elites are FOR something, you should probably be AGAINST it almost immediately.

If I was a pessimist, I’d tell you that her views on various issues are irrelevant. People aren’t going to vote for her views, they’re going to vote for what she symbolizes. Once they’ve decided she’s the symbol they want to stand with, it doesn’t matter if she’s in favor of eating puppies or a practicing Satanism; people will support their symbol and adopt her views.

How many of the people who voted for Obama were really voting for a guy who’d double the national debt, open the borders, and assist Iran? Answer: not many. They were voting for what he represented as the first black President, just like people voted for Hillary because she was a woman and they voted for Trump because of the symbol he was to them. Even though Oprah has said things that are openly hostile towards ‘white people’, many will vote for her to signal their virtue and enlightenment. Even though she has no legislative experience, that won’t matter because Trump didn’t either.
