Fired Google Engineer Receives Job Offer from Julian Assange

In case you are not up to speed with the news, the internet tech-giant Google recently fired one of its employees, a computer engineer respectively, after the latter slammed the company’s internal policies with regard to enforcing (more like forcing) diversity and political correctness in a 10 page memo circulated among staff. The memo deplored the patent anti-conservative climate inside Google and argued (among other things) that women are less suited to play certain roles in leadership and tech. For a crash-course in what really happened, check out this video.

Our hero’s name is James Damore and after getting fired for criticizing Google’s diversity policies, i.e. for free speech, he received a job offer from Wikileaks’ founder Julian Assange:

What’s really ironic about Google firing James is the fact that the 10 page memo argues the company should be more diverse with regard to allowing different political viewpoints. However, he quickly discovered that in Google’s view, diversity only applies to genders and minorities, not to general  perspectives or ideologies. The cherry on top was Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s letter published for Google employees on Tuesday, which reads “people must feel free to express dissent”.

And get fired after expressing dissent, right?

Observing how James got fired for free speech basically (I encourage you to read the full memo), we can safely assume that Google’s motto should no longer read “don’t be evil”, but “we encourage free expression and open debate as along as we agree with it.” One may argue that when working for someone else, that may be a truism. However, Google keeps saying that people should feel safe to express opinions and then fires someone for a very respectful, well reasoned debate.

It’s the old commie Mao trick – calling to “let a hundred flowers bloom”, and then having Deng Xioaping round up and imprison those who speak out. The so-called liberals don’t perceive that there is ever a point of view that varies from theirs which it is acceptable to hold, let alone express. In short, if you’re not with us, you’re a fascist, a racist, a sexist, an Islamophobe, a homophobe, a transphobe, whatever.

The good news is that James Damore will probably sue Google, i.e. he will pursue legal action. A multi-million dollar settlement will take place and in a couple of months, the issue will be forgotten.

According to an employment lawyer in San Diego writing for CNBC:

“Federal labor law bars even non-union employers like Google from punishing an employee for communicating with fellow employees about improving working conditions
California law prohibits employers from threatening to fire employees to get them to adopt or refrain from adopting a particular political course of action.”
