The Trump effect is now hitting big tech, as we just got word that Google, world’s biggest and arguably most powerful/known company in history is now getting sued for discriminating against, horribile dictu, conservative white men. The conservative white man who had the guts to take Google to court is James Damore, a tech-nerd and author of the “diversity memo” circulated at Google’s headquarters back in August, a move which ended up with him getting fired for dubious reasons.
Google fired Dampore, a computer engineer, after he slammed the company’s internal policies with regard to enforcing (more like forcing) diversity and political correctness in a 10 page memo circulated among staff. Today we learned that James Damore is taking legal action against his former employer via a press release. Damore told Bloomberg earlier:
“The whole point of my memo was actually to improve Google and Google’s culture. They just punished me and shamed me for doing it.”
After firing James Damore, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai proved that irony is lost on big tech, as he claimed that “people must feel free to express dissent” at Google. Well, free to express it, prior to getting fired for that. Pichai wrote in a blog post:
“First, let me say that we strongly support the right of Googlers to express themselves, and much of what was in that memo is fair to debate, regardless of whether a vast majority of Googlers disagree with it. However, portions of the memo violate our Code of Conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace.”
