Nobody But Russia Believed Trump Would Win, Says Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized Democrats for blaming Russia for their election loss.

At his annual news conference on Friday, Putin said that Russia made a correct prediction about Trump’s electoral victory. He called Democrats and Hillary Clinton as losers who blame anyone else for their losses, Politico reported.

“Nobody believed he would win except for us,” the Russian president said. “They [Democrats] are losing on all fronts and looking elsewhere for things to blame. In my view this, how shall I say it, degrades their own dignity. You have to know how to lose with dignity,” Putin added.

Trump has been criticized for his friendly behavior towards Putin. The Obama administration has accused Russia of interfering in the US election by hacking Democratic targets. The CIA said in a report that the Putin government was trying to tip the election in Trump’s favor.

In response to Trump’s statement about expanding nuclear arsenal, Putin said there is nothing new about it. He defended Trump’s comments.

“Of course the U.S. has more missiles, submarines and aircraft carriers, but what we say is that we are stronger than any aggressor, and this is the case,” Putin said. “As for Donald Trump, there is nothing new about it, during his election campaign he said the U.S. needs to bolster its nuclear capabilities and its armed forces in general.”

Trump Response

Trump likes Putin’s comments about Democrats.

“Vladimir Putin said today about Hillary and Dems: ‘In my opinion, it is humiliating. One must be able to lose with dignity.’ So true!” Trump tweeted.

Also, on Friday, Trump released a statement from Putin. The President-elect said that the Russian president sent him a “very nice letter.” He added that Putin’s “thoughts are so correct.”
