According to a recent press release, former president Barack Hussein Obama and his beautiful wife, former First Lady Michelle just signed the deal of a lifetime with Penguin Random House.
The deal signed today came in the aftermath of a bloody bidding war that exceed sixty million dollars. Yes, you got that right: $60,000,000 for publishing rights to the presidential couple’s future books, as per a Financial Times report.
The exact numbers were not disclosed, but you can bet your last dime that the figures are pretty damn’ interesting, marking for the priciest presidential book deal in history.
Also, the terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed. The former President and his wife were represented by Deneen Howell and Robert Barnett of Williams& Connolly. Penguin Random House’s chief exec said in statement that, let me quote:
“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our publishing partnership with President and Mrs. Obama. With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same,Now, we are very much looking forward to working together with President and Mrs. Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance.”
It’s interesting to notice that the Clintons had to spend years and years of delivering confidential speeches paid with hundreds of thousands of dollars per hour before major Wall Street bankers and middle eastern customers of the Treasury Department before boasting their “joint fortune” of tens of millions of dollars. Let’s remember that the Clintons left the White House broke, yet now they’re worth God knows how much.
The Obamas seem to be in a hurry, planing to achieve basically the same with just a couple of books. One may say that Obama is just another “champagne socialist” like most of the DEMS. After all, it’s do as I say, not do as I do, right?
