During an ad-hoc statement from the White House on Monday evening, President Donald Trump unequivocally shared his views on racism and violence, while addressing the unfortunate events which shocked Charlottesville (and other cities) last weekend. President Trump said:
Racism is evil and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans. We are equal in the eyes of our Creator. We are equal under the law and under our Constitution.
The POTUS continued:
“To anyone who acted criminally at this weekend’s racist violence: you will be held fully accountable. Justice will be fully delivered. As I said on Saturday, we condemn this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence. It has no place in America and as I’ve said many times before no matter the color of our skin, we all live under the same laws. We all salute the same great flag and we are all made by the same almighty God,”
President Trump’s statement comes in the aftermath of the DOJ opening a civil rights investigation into Charlottesville violence following a meeting with FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Jeff Sessions was quoted as saying that the DOJ will treat the violent acts which occurred over the weekend as domestic terrorism.
President Trump’s clarification on Monday follows the backlash in the mainstream media after his initial statement on Saturday, when he slammed violence from both the left and the right,, but he did not specifically condemn white supremacy/white nationalism as per MSM’s request.
However, even if President Trump has jumped through all the hoops that the mainstream media wanted him to, it will never be enough for them. It’s fortunate though that the POTUS recognized that violence and bigotry is not a one sided problem, and certainly not confined to the so-called “white nationalists/supremacists” in US, but also frequently found in left-wing anarchist groups, like ANTIFA and/or Black Lives Matter.
Here’s an excerpt from Donald Trump’s initial statement on Saturday:
“But we’re closely following the terrible events unfolding in Charlottesville, Va.. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides. […]
Above all else, we must remember this truth, no matter our color, creed, religion or political party, we are all Americans first. We love our country. We love our God. We love our flag. We’re proud of our country. We’re proud of who we are.
It’s good to see that at the end of the President’s statement on Monday he again said all bigotry, which means he will be also investigating ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter, the darlings of the left wing mainstream media. However, the fact that he (or anyone in our government) won’t specifically name ANTIFA and BLM as the racist/hate groups/left wing terrorist organizations they are is worrying.
