According to various officials , President Trump is set to put an end to NAFTA very soon. Also, ending NAFTA will put a dent in illegal immigration numbers, but more on that right after the break. Canadian leaders are convinced that President Trump will pull the plug on the North American Free Trade Agreement as soon as late January, when his administration officials are set to meet with their Mexican and Canadian counterparts to discuss NAFTA related issues.
Putting the kibosh on the North American Free Trade Agreement is one of President Trump’s core campaign promises. The POTUS is known for blaming NAFTA for a long time with regard to the outflow of factory jobs south of the border, i.e. the trade deal is not fair for the American worker as it distorts the labor market. Here’s a viral tweet of then-candidate Trump on the NAFTA issue:

However, killing NAFTA as per his campaign promises will also reduce illegal immigration. To make a long story short, NAFTA was one of the main culprits regarding the huge influx of Mexicans seeking work illegally in the United States, as the subsidies given to American farmers due to NAFTA put Mexican farmers out of work. Here’s an explanation from the former coordinator of the Binational Front of Indigenous Organizations Rufino Domínguez:
“There are no jobs [in Mexico] and NAFTA forced the price of corn so low that it’s not economically possible to plant a crop anymore. We come to the U.S. to work because we can’t get a price for our product at home. There’s no alternative.”
Ross Perot correctly predicted the massive loss of jobs if NAFTA was passed, i.e. the “giant sucking sound” of jobs leaving the country. No more welfare for the world on the backs of American taxpayers. No more kowtowing to third world despots who keep their people in chains, while we subsidize them.
