Russia’s President Vladimir Putin praised Donald Trump on Friday during a press conference, while calling the Democratic Party “sore election losers”. Putin also said that he wasn’t worried by President Elect Donald Trump’s announced plans for boosting the United States’s nuclear arsenal.
The Russian president made the remarks as he was speaking during his annual news conference in the country’s capital Moscow. Vladimir Putin went on to explain that his earlier comments with regard to the United States military were misunderstood and he clearly admitted that the US, not Russia is the most powerful military force in the world.
Putin was quoted saying on Thursday that Russia’s military forces were stronger than any potential aggressor. Donald Trump went later on Twitter to retort that the US must strengthen and expand its nuclear capabilities as a deterrent of sorts for the world’s nuclear powers, something along the sixties MAD doctrine (mutual assured destruction).
After Trump was asked by MSNBC to clarify his tweets, he said :
“Let it be an arms race. We will outmatch them at every pass and outlast them all.”
Vladimir Putin was very conciliatory during today’s press conference, saying that he doesn’t regard the United States as a potential enemy/aggressor, as he was referring to other countries which he sees capable of realistically launch an attack on the homeland. Let me quote the man himself:
“I was a bit surprised by the statements from some representatives of the current U.S. administration who for some reason started to prove that the U.S. military was the most powerful in the world.
Nobody is arguing with that.
In the course of his election campaign he (Trump) spoke about the necessity of strengthening the U.S. nuclear arsenal, and strengthening the armed forces. There’s nothing unusual here”
Putin also said that Russia will not spend “beaucop dollars” on an arms race she couldn’t win/cannot afford, i.e. if anyone wants to start an arms race, it is not Russia.
On a funnier note, after answering questions from the press regarding the situation in Syria and Ukraine, Putin trolled the Democratic party, saying that the DEMs already forgot the meaning of their own name, i.e. what “democratic” really stands for, and that they were sore losers, which is actually as true as it gets.
“(We are talking about) a party which has clearly forgotten the original meaning of its own name. They (the Democrats) are losing on all fronts and looking elsewhere for things to blame. In my view this, how shall I say it, degrades their own dignity. You have to know how to lose with dignity.”
said Putin, further dismissing any suggestions that the Russian government had helped President Elect Donald Trump in any way, shape of form to achieve victory , adding with a smile:
“Trump understood the mood of the people and kept going until the end, when nobody believed in him.
Except for you and me.”
