After Facebook and Twitter, Reddit joins the Anti Trump movement in a desperate attempt to control public opinion on the internet.
The vast majority of pro President Trump posts are banned by Reddit from surfacing on the forum’s most popular page, which sees a lot of traffic from new users.
Reddit actually announced officially that it was cracking down on what seems to be popular by showing new users/visitors just those popular posts the website’s admins see fit, i.e. from handpicked categories, which basically exclude anything from “The_Donald” subreddit or other pro Trump subreddits.
To put it simply, with regard of free speech and all that liberal palaver, Reddit’s new front page is theoretically about popular posts, but in reality, it depends on how the moderators and admins define popular.
According to the graph below, Reddit moderators/admins are actively censoring/filtering out the posts from “The Donald” subreddit from surfacing in /r/popular.
If the process would have been made by an algorithm instead of human hand, there have been more posts filtered from the r/politics subreddit, but in reality, just pro Trump posts are censored.
The bias against pro Donald Trump posts is very clear and there are strong motives to believe the censorship is intentional, as there are precedents. Reddit’s CEO Steve Huffman said in November, prior to the election, that he vows to suppress certain pro Donald Trump posts from surfacing elsewhere on Reddit except from the dedicated The_Donald subreddit:
“Posts stickied on r/the_donald will no longer appear in r/all – r/all is not our frontpage, but is a popular listing that our most engaged users frequent, including myself. The sticky feature was designed for moderators to make announcements or highlight specific posts.”
It was not meant to circumvent organic voting, which r/the_donald does to slingshot posts into r/all, often in a manner that is antagonistic to the rest of the community.”
Huffman was also caught editing pro Trump users comments which were critical of him on Reddit.
Reddit is not alone in the anti Trump campaign. Facebook and Twitter have a history of suppressing Donald Trump supporters, especially the former, who has long attempted to curtail discussions on their platform by banning critics of its censorship practices and blocking alternative media sites, in perfect Communist tradition.
Facebook’s CEO Zuckerberg was caught on a hot mic incident discussing the censorship of anti-migrant posts on his platform with Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor and he also met with China’s internet censorship czar Lu Wei, who he describes as a visionary.
