GOP House Judiciary Committee representative Matt Gaetz introduced a resolution earlier on Friday morning, thus calling for Robert Mueller’s resignation from his position as special counsel in charge of the FBI investigation of the alleged/possible collusion between the Russian government and the Trump campaign.
Matt Gaetz’s resolution claims, among other things, that Robert Mueller, who by the way is the former FBI director under Obama’s reign in the White House, is hopelessly compromised due to his failure to report on the corruption concerning the highly controversial Uranium Deal, which happened under his watch so to speak. Mueller was FBI director in 2010, when Obama’s administration decided to proceed with the sale of Uranium One to a Russian controlled company, despite the fact that the Mueller’s FBI found extensive evidence of criminal activity (the Russians bribed Americans and made generous donations to the Clinton Foundation etc.) relevant to the deal, yet he failed to bring any charges and basically signed off on the deal.
According to the official press release, let me quote:
“Evidence has emerged that the FBI withheld information from Congress and from the American people about Russian corruption of American uranium companies. A confidential U.S. witness, working in the Russian nuclear industry, revealed that Russia had deeply compromised an American uranium trucking firm through bribery and financial kickbacks.
Although federal agents possessed this information in 2010, the Department of Justice continued investigating this “matter” for over four years. The FBI, led at the time by Robert Mueller, required the confidential witness to sign a non-disclosure agreement. When the witness attempted to contact Congress and federal courts about the bribery and corruption he saw, he was threatened with legal action. By silencing him, Obama’s Justice Department and Mueller’s FBI knowingly kept Congress in the dark about Russia’s significant and illegal involvement with American uranium companies.
These deeply troubling events took place when Mr. Mueller was the Director of the FBI. As such, his impartiality is hopelessly compromised. He must step down immediately,” Rep. Gaetz said in a statement.
The resolution submitted by House Judiciary Committee representative Matt Gaetz currently has 2 sponsors: Representatives Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX), who are both members of the House Freedom Caucus.
Robert Mueller as head of the FBI in 2009 was accused (together with Obama’s DOJ) of silencing an FBI confidential informant who tried to come forward with intel that connected the Clinton Foundation to the Uranium One extravaganza, as per a recent revelation via The Hill .
