The transition team of President elect Donald J Trump just announced on Friday that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has withdrawn his bid to join the Trump administration in a Secretary of State position.

Giuliani was quoted as saying that his decision was made much earlier, on November 29th. In an interview for Fox News after the official announcement was made, Rudy Giuliani said that he feels he can play a better role  in making America great again as an outsider.

“The whole thing was becoming very confusing and difficult for the President-elect and my desire to be in the cabinet was great, but it wasn’t that great, and he had a lot of terrific candidates”

said Rudy Giuliani in the Fox News interview, adding that he agrees with Newt Gingrich, the former Speaker of the House and also with Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas Governor that Mitt Romney may not be the ideal choice in the new Trump cabinet as Secretary of State.

The former GoP nominee in 2012 is reportedly on the short list for the position of Secretary of State in the upcoming Trump administration. In a recent press release, the Donald was quoted as saying:

“Rudy Giuliani is an extraordinarily talented and patriotic American. I will always be appreciative of his 24/7 dedication to our campaign after I won the primaries and for his extremely wise counsel. He is and continues to be a close personal friend, and as appropriate, I will call upon him for advice and can see an important place for him in the administration at a later date.”

As Rudy Giuliani is still the Vice Chairman of the Presidential Transition Team, Trump added:

“Rudy would have been an outstanding member of the Cabinet in several roles, but I fully respect and understand his reasons for remaining in the private sector,”

Giuliani explained in a press release some of the reasons for which he felt compelled to remove his bid for becoming Secretary of State in Trump’s administration:

I joined the campaign because I love my country and because having known Donald Trump as a friend for 28 years and observing what he has been able to accomplish, I had no doubt he would be a great President. This is not about me; it is about what is best for the country and the new administration. Before I joined the campaign I was very involved and fulfilled by my work with my law firm and consulting firm, and I will continue that work with even more enthusiasm. From the vantage point of the private sector, I look forward to helping the President-elect in any way he deems necessary and appropriate.

Reince Priebus, the next White House Chief of Staff in Trump’s cabinet said that Rudy Giuliani was meticulously vetted by Trump’s Team for any possible conflicts of interest and he passed the scrutiny with flying colors, adding that Rudy will remain a close friend and an adviser for Donald Trump. Rudy Giuliani notified Donald Trump that he’s withdrawing from any position in the next Trump administration and he desires to remain in the private sector during a November 29th meeting.
