‘Sick’, Trump Reacts to Media Reports on his ‘secret meeting’ with Putin

The media published reports that Putin and Trump had a second ‘secret’ meeting at G20 summit in Hamburg

Some two weeks following the first face-to-face meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin at G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, the media published reports claiming the two leaders had a second, secret meeting during the summit.

Trump wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

In his next Tweet, Trump said implied that an ordinary diner arranged for G20 country leaders at the summit in Hamburg was made to look ‘sinister’ by ‘fake news’.

While it is well known that unofficial conversations between leaders during international event are fairly common, it did not prevent the mainstream media from putting forward bombastic headlines about a second, ‘secret’ meeting between Trump and Putin.

The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said that the media reports about a secret meeting between the Russian and U.S. President displays a “lack of understanding” and has prompted “astonishment” in Moscow.

“The use of such notion as “undisclosed” or “secret” meeting causes absolute astonishment and lack of understanding,”  Peskov told Russian state TV, Channel One.

Peskov also said there was only one meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the the summit and it was officially announced; and that Putin and Trump “repeatedly exchanged their opinions during the [summit].”

He pointed out that “there were no undisclosed or secret meeting,” adding, that these claims are “absurd. He then remarked that such reports in MSM indicate “unhealthy attitude” of the US establishment towards Russia.

“Presenting something like this as a meeting that could be kept secret from anybody is a manifestation of… schizophrenia,” he said.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that: “It appears that the very fact of a contact [of any US official] with the Russian officials turns into a sort of a criminal [act].”

“Every leader has the right to communicate with whoever he or she wants in a way he or she see fit. There are dozens of various contacts [between the world leaders] that are not being recorded,” he added.

The original report about a second, secret meeting between Trump and Putin was apparently started by Ian Bremmer, president of the Eurasia Group, a global political consultancy and was then picked up by Washington Post and other major Western media.

The media then speculated about the content of the ‘secret’ meeting between Putin and Trump. The story about the second ‘undisclosed’ meeting between the two appeared in almost all major mainstream media, including NBC, CNN and New York Times.

NBC news posted an ‘bird’s eye view’ of the G-20 dinner where Putin and Trump talked, and even highlighted the locations of the two leaders at the diner table.
