According to White House insiders, the resignation of Justice Anthony Kennedy is imminent and the POTUS has already been informed regarding Justice Kennedy’s impending departure, which means that The Donald will soon make his second nomination for the US Supreme Court.
This is a huge development by any metrics and according to Roger Stone, a long life friend of Donald Trump and close associate, including during the presidential campaign, US Circuit Judge Thomas Hardiman may be the front runner on Trump’s short list of appointees for the opening Supreme Court seat.
That is only a speculation, obviously, as President Trump will definitely consider other names as well. Some are dreaming at the nomination of Judge Andrew Napolitano, a long time favorite of Donald Trump and the quintessential surprise-candidate.
Justice Kennedy is an 80 year old Ronald Reagan appointee and he is described by the mainstream media as a conservative-centrist holding a control vote on the SCOTUS on numerous occasions, including on highly controversial issues like abortion rights, gay marriage, fair housing and affirmative action. That makes him more of a liberal than a conservative one may argue, but I’ll let this one go.
President Trump told the media during the past weekend that he also heard the rumors regarding Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement:
“I’ve heard the same rumors that a lot of people have heard. And I have a lot of respect for that gentleman, a lot.”
