The Iraqi Prime Minister has declared victory over ISIS (the Islamic State) on Saturday after three years of bitter war. Finally, the Islamic jihadists were driven from all Iraqi territory they once held, as per Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s announcement in Baghdad.
Currently, Iraqi army is in full control over the country’s borders with Syria and this latest development was described as the final nail in ISIS’ coffin by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s spokesman. Another senior Iraqi military official, Lt. Gen. Abdul-Amir Rasheed Yar Allah respectively, confirmed that combat ops against the Islamic State had been completed.
The United States led military coalition congratulated Iraq over its significant achievements as of late (say Hi to Iran!). ISIS once controlled almost 30% of Iraq’s territory, including the country’s second largest city Mosul. Last month, Iraqi military drove ISIS fighters from the last town they controlled, a small city near the Syrian border (Rawah). When Rawah was finally cleared of jihadists, it marked the end of the Islamic State in Iraq, yet ISIS operatives are still a danger and a problem to be dealt with, as they’re capable of carrying terrorist attacks all across the world. Now Iraq will have to rebuild its infrastructure in order to allow over three million of its citizens, now war refugees, to return home.
Gosh, who would have thunk it? Let our military do what they need to do to carry out a mission and not get lawyers and politicians involved every step along the way, and the mission becomes a success. There is a lesson to be learned from this, but most of our politicians, pundits, reporters, academics, celebrities and “experts” are going to totally ignore it.
