Turkey’s “semi-dictator” Tayip Recep Erdogan, also known as the last president of the Turkish future Caliphate has called on “world Muslims” (his own words) to flood Jerusalem. While speaking in Istanbul at a charity conference about Palestine’s economic development, Erdogan pasha slammed Israel for its “apartheid” policies which were compared to South Africa during its apartheid era.
Also, Israel was heavily criticized for its settlement plans in Jerusalem and the West Bank:
“We, as Muslims, should be visiting Al-Quds more often (Al-Quds is the Arabic name for Jerusalem). Each day that Jerusalem is under occupation is an insult to us.”
Despite the fact that Jerusalem was originally Christian, just as Syria, Iraq, Iran and basically the whole middle east/north Africa were Christian before the Islamic conquest, Erdogan considers that Jerusalem is “under occupation” and he believes that hundreds of thousands of Muslims should be visiting the site, which is a holy place for Christians and for Muslims as well.
“[It] would be the greatest support to our brothers there.
“Al-Quds is holy for all three divine religions. It is the heart and summary of all human history.
“Both in terms of our religion and historical responsibility, Al-Quds and the fight of our Palestinian brothers for rights and justice is of great importance to us. We will keep making efforts for Quds to turn into a city of peace.”
Added Erdogan, saying that in the absence of a fair deal with regard to the Palestinian issue, peace can never be achieved in the region:
“What’s the difference between the present acts of the Israeli administration and the racist and discriminatory politics that were practiced against black people in the past in America – and up until a short time ago in South Africa.”
“Here is the only solution. The establishment of a fully sovereign and independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital along the lines of 1967,
dixit Erdogan, conveniently forgetting that the lines of 1967 were drawn after Israel was attacked by several Arab nations (Syria, Egypt, Jordan), a 6-day war was fought and won fair and square by Israelis. After a decisive victory, Israel occupied the Golan Heights, the Old City of Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and the Sinai Peninsula. Henceforth, these territories became a major point of discordance in the Israeli-Arab conflict.
It definitely looks like Kemal’s modern Turkish state is dead, but the dreams of the Ottoman Greatness will remain always so: dreams. By the way, Turkey’s current capital İstanbul is historically known as Constantinople (also as Constantinopolis) and it was a Christian city, the jewel of the Byzantine Empire. Therefore Erdogan should take his Islamist propaganda and leave the city across the Bosporus and join his Arab brothers in the sands of Middle East.
