At least 6 people were killed in New York on a street in lower Manhattan as a box truck driver mowed down pedestrians in an incident which resembles the recent Islamic terrorist attacks that took place in France, Spain and the United Kingdom.
The attack took place on Tuesday afternoon, as a box truck was intentionally plowed into bicyclists and pedestrians alike on West Side Highway bike lane. The victims, 11 injured and 6 dead were found near Chambers Street and West Street.
The suspect was not yet identified, but according to early reports, he was taken into custody by police. Witnesses reported shots fired at the scene, but it’s not yet clear if they were shot by the attacker or by the New York police at the attacker. Some witnesses say the suspect exited his vehicle after ramming it into a school bus carrying 2 guns (apparently BB guns) and up to six gunshots were reported.
The driver was seen running away from the scene, then he was shot by the police and he’s now in custody. Here’s a video from the scene of the attack:
