California Teen Escapes from House of Horror, 12 Siblings Chained to Beds

David and Louise Turpin allegedly kept 13 victims

Twelve starving siblings were found in a California home chained to their beds, after their sister managed to escape and alerted the authorities. Parents were arrested on suspicion of 9 counts of torture and ten counts of child endangerment: David Allen Turpin and Louise Anna Turpin of Perris, 57 and 49 years of age respectively.

The shocking discovery took place in Perris, as per Riverside County Sheriff’s Department own words, on Sunday, January 14. Twelve people were found tied/chained and padlocked to their own beds, with 7 of them so emaciated they appeared to be children. Yet, they were full grown (well, sort of) adults. The girl who managed to escape is a 17 year old who looked like a 10 year old according to investigators, due to malnutrition most probably. She managed to break away early on Sunday morning from the house in the 100 block of Muir Woods Road and she used a cellphone taken from the house to call 911. She said to the 911 operator that her twelve brothers and sisters were held captive in the Perris house.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene immediately and questioned both parents, David Allen Turpin, 57, and Louise Anna Turpin, 49; after that, they found the “hostages” captive in, let me quote, “dark and foul-smelling surroundings.” This is from the official statement of the Sheriff’s department:

“The parents were unable to immediately provide a logical reason why their children were restrained in that manner.Deputies located what they believed to be 12 children inside the house, but were shocked to discover that seven of them were actually adults, ranging in age from 18 to 29. The victims appeared to be malnourished and very dirty.”

The couple lived at the respective address form more than 2 years. The bail for the arrested couple was set at $9 million each, even if neither suspect doesn’t have a criminal record in Riverside County. The age of the 13 victims ranges between 2 to 29 years old. The parents failed to explain why their children were being restrained/kept hostage basically in that horrific manner. All victims were very dirty and malnourished and they were immediately provided with food and beverages after they said they were starving. This is a developing story, and we’ll provide you with updates as soon as possible.
