Terror in Spain : At Least 13 Dead After Van Plows Into Crowd in Barcelona

A van was intentionally smashed into a crowd in Barcelona, Spain, leaving at least 13 bystanders dead on the spot and scores injured. The situation is developing and according to various reports, there’s a hostage situation, as 2 armed terrorists have entered a Turkish-restaurant (Luna de Istanbul) following the van-attack and they’ve taken hostages.

The Spanish journal El Periodico announced there’s an active shootout taking place, with Barcelona security forces at the scene.

The initial attack took place on the famous Las Ramblas street, where the van mowed pedestrians in one of Barcelona’s most crowded tourist hot-spots in the city centre. After that, two armed men exited the van and entered a nearby restaurant, taking customers hostages. Catalan police described the van crashing into the crowd of pedestrians as a terrorist attack.

At least 13 people are reported to have died and more than 25 were injured in the massive crash. According to El Nacional,  Spanish authorities are said to be looking for the driver who managed to escape on foot. There are confusing reports via Twitter from witnesses:
