Who was the most Googled celebrity of 2016?

Don’t pretend you don’t spend your free time Googling what your favourite celebrities are up to.

As it does every year, Google has just released its search statistics for 2016, and the results might actually surprise you. Here goes:

Despite the media only finding out about her relationship with Prince Harry in October, ‘Suits’ actress Meghan Markle has topped the list. Yep, our could-be Princess has taken over the internet, and is officially the most Googled female actress of the year. Quite an achievement, we must say!

We are fascinated with her and admittedly have been for years, and we’re quite proud that the rest of the world is catching up.

So who did she beat for the top spot?

French stunner Marion Cotillard came in second – this no doubt must have had something to do with the allegations that she was partly to blame for the Brangelina split. Obviously we don’t know for sure, but that would be our guess…

Strangely, Angelina Jolie was nowhere to be seen on the top ten list of most Googled actresses of the year, but her soon-to-be ex-husband Brad Pitt secured the top spot for most Googled actors. Pretty interesting, right?

Taylor Swift’s ex Tom Hiddleston came second, while ‘Girls’/’Star Wars’ actor Adam Driver secured the third spot.

‘Star Wars’ has had a pretty big impact on Google this year, as newbie Daisy Ridley was the fourth most Googled actress of the year. Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress Oscar winners Brie Larson and Alicia Vikander secured the fifth and ninth spots, respectively, while ‘Stranger Things’ superstar Milly Bobby Brown finished off the list nicely and came in tenth.

Are you surprised by any of these? Who do you think you Googled the most this year?
